The presentation of Azerbaijan's national satellite operator Azercosmos and tourism potential of Azerbaijan was held in Paris as part of the International Astronautical Federation's (IAF) Spring Meetings.

Chairman of Azercosmos OJSC Rashad Nabiyev spoke about the role of our country in the cosmic sphere, noting that Baku hosted the 24th International Astronautical Congress in 1973, AZERTAC reports.

He noted that Azerbaijan, having a rich experience in hosting international events, can also organize the events of the IAF at a high level. Nabiyev suggested to hold the Federation's major events in Azerbaijan, a member of the cosmic family. The video about the activity of Azercosmos was presented.

Sevda Aliyeva representing the Azerbaijan Tourism Board provided information on the history, culture and tourism opportunities of our country during Spring Meetings. Videomaterials has been shown about our tourist sightseeings. Participants of the meeting were invited to get acquainted with the tourism opportunities of our country.

Spring Meetings, traditionally held annually, are considered to be the most important events of the Federation.

Within the framework of the events, a series of meetings were organized with the participation of the IAF, as well as the President of the French National Centre for Space Studies (CNES) Jean-Yves Le Gall, the Office of Vice-Presidents and relevant committees.

Wide-ranging discussions were held among federation members on the work done in the field of astronautics during the year, the role of the new space industry in global space arena and trends in the field. In addition, the wide-ranging propaganda campaign was held at the Spring Meetings to hold the Federation's prestigious events in Baku in the future and to introduce Azerbaijan as a cosmic country.

Azerbaijan’s Azercosmos OJSC operates satellites and other devices used at different heights in order to support the country’s socio-economic development, commercial, scientific activities and for state purposes.

Azercosmos OJSC was established in May 2010 with the purpose of implementing the launch, operation, and exploitation of telecommunication satellites for Azerbaijan. This is the first Caucasian satellite operator.

Azercosmos OJSC operates geostationary satellites Azerspace 1, Azerspace 2 and low-altitude satellite AzerSky.

Azercosmos provided 24 countries with its services. The bulk of the services accounted for France ($11.8 million), Malaysia ($8.4 million), the UAE ($1.5 million), Germany ($941,000) and Georgia ($537,000).

The revenues of Azercosmos OJSC from the export of satellite and telecommunication services amounted to $25.6 million in 2018.

National satellites offer high-quality services for telecommunications in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe and the Caucasus region. The launch of satellites in space ensures the formation of a reliable information security system in Azerbaijan and, in general, boosts telecommunications system development, and further enhances the quality of internet, international telephone calls, television broadcasting and satellite services throughout the country. At the same time, satellite mapping, hydrometeorology, study of the Earth's surface, geodetic works will be possible at a high level.
