NEW YORK, March 13. /TASS/. Turkey will ask the US to extend a waiver from US sanctions on Gazprombank, which would allow it to pay for Russian gas supplies, Bloomberg said citing Turkish officials.
The waiver from sanctions expires on March 20, and Ankara is working on its extension, sources said. Restrictions were imposed by the US Department of the Treasury in November 2024.
Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek is expected to have a telephone conversation with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent this week and ask for extension of the sanctions waiver, sources told the agency.
Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on December 20, 2024 that Ankara had been granted a waiver for Gazprombank, through which foreign consumers’ payments for Russian gas are made, by Washington.
