The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) declared on Thursday that two of its drivers were killed and three other staff members were injured in Sudan.

The ICRC stated that armed individuals attacked drivers working for the ICRC in Sudan on Thursday, killing two and injuring three others who were employees.

In a statement, the ICRC mentioned that the team was returning from Libya to assess the humanitarian situation for communities affected by armed violence in the region when the incident occurred in South Darfur.

Pierre Dorbes, the head of the ICRC delegation in Sudan, expressed deep sadness for their dear colleagues, offering sincere condolences to their families and hoping for the speedy recovery of the injured staff members.

A fierce conflict between the Sudanese army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces, formerly led by his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has been tearing the country apart for over a year.

The war has claimed the lives of tens of thousands and forced millions of others to flee their homes, described by the United Nations as the "world's largest displacement crisis."

This has led to a severe food shortage and a humanitarian crisis that has left the inhabitants of the state in Northeast Africa vulnerable to the threat of famine.

Ahmed Osman Hamza, the acting governor of Khartoum, declared a state of emergency in the state on Thursday and decided to establish a security cell to monitor the movement of the Rapid Support Forces' social bases among other tasks.

The head of the Sovereignty Council and the army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, agreed with Khartoum State's recommendation to declare a state of emergency and deal with foreigners.

According to a statement received by "Sudan Tribune," the acting governor, Ahmed Osman Hamza, declared a state of emergency in the state.

In another statement, he pointed out that the governor issued an emergency order to form a "security cell" to work on referring cases that require long-term traditional security work by government forces, such as the movement of social incubators from areas where the enemy is present - in reference to the Rapid Support Forces - to areas under army control.
